1956,November 16, Elvis’s first movie, Love Me Tender, was released. (Clint Reno)
The movie seemed to be a failure, but a box office success; Elvis was the main attraction and the demand so great that Twentieth Century-Fox had to distribute almost double their usual prints of a first run movie.

The critics quickly dismissing the movie and marked it as a B grade melodrama.
But what the critics didn’t see was the fact that Love Me Tender is a classic love story.

But for as long as Elvis lived he would be bothered by the poor quality of the scripts and songs.

1957,July 9, Elvis released his second movie, Loving You, (Deke Rivers) this movie dealt with the theme of troubled youth.

Elvis’s hair was naturally light brown but dyed it a darker shade, later he would keep it as he preferred, the color blue-black.

It is considered by many to be Elvis’s best movie Elvis enjoyed the vigorous Rock-and-Roll score, as he threw himself into the main role.

Elvis himself choreographed the title number. And to this day remains a Rock and Roll classic.

King Creole is remembered as one of Elvis Presley’s best movies, and is probably the only one that was ever taken seriously by the critics, the good reviews of the movie filled Elvis with deep satisfaction and accomplishment, which would stay with him right up until his mothers sudden death.

1960, October, G.I.BLUES, (Tulsa McLean) was Elvis’s first movie after two years in the Army, then Flaming star, (Pacer Burton) and Wild In The Country (Glenn Tyler) were made the following year, (1961)

The three movies were a financial success, but a dramatic failure.

1961, November 14, the film Blue Hawaii was released, (Chad Gates)

It was a huge success: one of Elvis’s biggest money makers, records continued to sell, an album made from the songs in Blue Hawaii was the fastest-selling album of the year.
The film reached the five-million-dollar mark.

1962, July, Kid Galahad (Walter Gulick) the film was another one of Elvis’s movies that did not do as well at the box office.

1962, November 2, Girls! Girls! Girls! was released. (Ross Carpenter) produced by Hal Wallis, the film included the sound track “Return To Sender.”

1963, April, Elvis’s first movie for the year was, “It Happened at the World’s Fair” (Mike Edwards) it was filmed in Seattle.

Elvis’s next movie for the same year was Fun In Acapulco (Mike Windgren) the critics would dismiss his movie as lightweight fluff, never recognizing the depth he brought to each of his roles.

1965, In this year Elvis released three movies Girl Happy (Rusty Wells), Tickle Me (Lonnie Beale), and Harum Scarum (Johnny Tyronne), most of his movies were musicals, and these three no exception.

1966, the movie Frankie and Johnny (Johnny) was released, and then Paradise Hawaiian Style (Rick Richards)

1966, Elvis’s next two movies: Spinout (Mick McCoy) and 1967, Easy Come, Easy Go (Ted Jackson), both are typical of his movies.

During Elvis’s years in Hollywood, the actor- Elvis Presley, films were never given the recognition they deserved.

1967, Double Trouble (Guy Lambert) and Clambake (Scott Heyward / ‘Tom Wilson’) were released.

1968, Stay Away, Joe (Joe Lightcloud) was released in March, the next two movies, Speedway (Steve Grayson) was released in June and Live a Little, Love a Little (Greg Nolan) was released in October.

1969, in March, Charro (Jess Wade) was released, and although Elvis continued to make more movies, he was ready to move in a new direction.

1969, Elvis went on to make two more movies, The Trouble with Girls (Walter Hale) released in May, and Change of Habit (Dr John Carpenter) came out in October, which would be Elvis Presley’s last movie.

1972, ELVIS ON TOUR, ended the age of Elvis Presley movies, and left Hollywood be hind him.

Elvis Presley’s movies grossed over $180 Million Dollars, more Millions were made when Colonel Tom Parker started the merchandising of Elvis’s products, and the Colonel controlled the rights.

Although he died in 1977, Elvis Presley still lives on to his legions of fans as “The King of Rock and Roll.” Presley was America’s first real rock star and was one of the country’s most popular entertainers in the mid to latter half of the 20th Century, perhaps eclipsed only by Frank Sinatra. Presley sung the blues and laced it with both gospel and country music elements, leading to his nickname “The Hillbilly Cat.” His voice has been described as having a unique tonality and extraordinary range, giving him the ability to tackle an array of songs and melodies that none of his contemporaries could conquer. In performing his music, Presley exuded sexuality and swagger, becoming a role model for generations of young rebels.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935, in East Tupelo, Mississippi. He was the son of Gladys and Vernon Presley, a sewing machine operator and a truck driver. Presley’s twin brother Jesse Garon was stillborn, and Elvis grew up as an only child. Presley cut his first recordings–the songs “My Happiness” and “That’s When the Your Heartaches Begin”– in 1953 at Memphis Recording Studios, a sideline record producer Sam Phillips had started at his Sun Records studios, where anyone could record a ten inch album for four dollars. After recording several more songs for Phillips, the record producer is said to have found what he was looking for”a white man with the Negro sound and the Negro feel”. After signing with RCA in 1956 and recording “Heartbreak Hotel” Elvis became a national star. On January 28, 1956, he made his television debut on the Dorsey brothers’ Stage Show, followed by six consecutive appearances. In March, Colonial Thomas Parker became Elvis’ manager. He would receive 25% of Elvis’ earnings through a contract that lasted the singer’s lifetime and beyond.

By the 1960’s Elvis had become a pop culture icon. He toured and played old songs and new hits on the road and in Las Vegas, where he was known for his sartorial splendor and highly electric performances. He started to break all sorts of entertainment records including those for concert attendance, television ratings, and records sales, becoming one of the best-selling artists in music history. Elvis continued to perform until he passed away at age 42 from a combination of obesity, depression and abuse of prescription drugs. Although Elvis has been gone for three decades, his popularity has remained in tact. Thousands make the pilgrimage to Graceland each year to pay tribute to the king of modern rock.

Elvis often enjoyed causal meetings with celebrities like Marty Allen, Tom Jones, Bobby Darin, Jack Lord, Buddy Hacket, and Jean Rivers.

In the early days Elvis also enjoyed the company of Sammy Davis Jr. and in later years enjoyed the company of Sammy Davis Jr. and his wife.

At one of Elvis’s movie nights in Memphis, he met Eric Clapton, but Elvis had no idea who Eric Clapton was, therefore being totally unaware of who Eric was Elvis had to be told by one of the boys, that Eric Clapton is known to be one of the finest blues and Rock guitarists in the world. Elvis really liked Eric.

On many occasions after Elvis’s shows in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, backstage in his dressing room, fellow entertainers and celebrities would call by, among the celebrities were singers like Barbra Streisand, Glen Campbell, Vicki Carr, Leon Russell, Wayne Newton and Ann-Margret, Elvis was loved and respected as a person and performer from those involved in the show Business.

Others that also held Elvis in high regard and friends that would visit him backstage were, Gregory Peck, Liza Minnelli, Kirk Douglas and Rod Steiger.

Muhammad Ali also would visit backstage after the show, Alice Copper would at times appear from nowhere or George Harrison might pop in

Fellow entertainers and celebrities would take the opportunity when Elvis performed shows in Las Vegas to catch up after the show, because he was a warm friendly man who had the reputation of wanting them to come backstage to visit.

Often in those backstage visits, people passing through made a point to stop in and congratulate Elvis on the great show they thought he did.

The boy, Elvis Aaron Presley, at the age of two or three he was a real sharecroppers kid wearing his overalls, a two toned shirt, and a hat which is warn in the same way as his dads, is cutely tipped to the right.

With his fine eyes whose pupils seem huge giving him a sharp look, his nose appears to be in a flattened form, his cheeks are very chubby, and even now at this age his famous curl is already altering his full lips.

At the age of six Elvis seems to of developed a few of his mothers delicate features, with his golden colored hair, wide-eyed and beautiful, but his curled lip is very much noticeable, giving the cherub an impish look, but also irresistible.

Now at the age of eight he is taller, slimmer and quite passive: every mothers ideal child, he is now dressed in the local style, with a long sleeved-shirt, open at the neck, and raggedy trousers held up chest high with the support of braces: a mighty fine Huckleberry Fin.

In the future Elvis learns to love God, to value even his worst elders, and to stand by his Country whether it is right or wrong.

As life goes on, his untaught eyes observes his parent’s appalling poverty, they both rise with the dawn and work hard all day with very little time for pleasure.

His father keeps changing jobs, they have to keep moving, and it seems like no end in sight. Elvis looks at his mothers face, feels the tension in her flesh, its then Elvis turns to her promising one day he will mend thing’s.

It is likely that Elvis is now a wear of the protective smiles to the exposure lying ahead of the family, in the land’s gripping poverty.

Elvis sings to his mother when the storms force them from home; he stands up to sing in the classroom and at church, clear, unsteady, doubtful, with an impressive genuineness that brings tears to the eyes of the strongest in the room.

Elvis’s nature was very sweet and consistently polite, quiet and considerate, as for rebellion it never existed in his personality. Elvis may have been poor but respectable, standard at school; he would gather flowers with the other kids, fooled around, but seldom gets into trouble: an unknown child.

Elvis is now thirteen and the Presley family is on the move again. leaving the harsh fields to the bright lights of Memphis.

Elvis now sixteen naturally, continues to sing, and carry his guitar around. He would on occasions play for his friends, in the schools variety shows, on picnics and at times at the local boys clubbut not to receive a financial return.

Elvis is not showy with it; he is quite the opposite and is often reluctant.

It’s just something he does but knows how to get it going once he starts.

Elvis being no different to other kids of this age: following the girls, pairing up to go out to the movies, having rides at the carnival, and longing for the day he has a car to go cruising injust an average all American boy.

In the adolescent years hanging out by the drug stores and jukebox joints, bored by the past, with nothing offered by the present, while casting misty eyes to wards the romantic future. It seems his Country is going through a boring stage.

It would all seem such a drag

Just before the end of Elvis’s school year’s, he start’s part time work as an usher to help out with the hard times for his parent’s, but had to quit after punching a fellow usher.

He then works evening shift at the Marl Metal Product’s Company which became difficult while also tending school though the day but after falling to sleep at school he quits again.

Life dosen’t seem to be improving for his parents as they continue to struggle through the tough times, Elvis starts mowing lawns for pocket money, and yet no matter how grim thing where for the Presley’s, they would always do the best they could by their son.

They went as far as buying Elvis a Lincoln Coupe, which it seems, is for all the family, but Elvis uses it.

Life remains unsteady, but in view of the conditions Elvis has good times going out to parties, hanging around jukeboxes, generally enjoying life. But he remains very thankful to his parents and returns all the love he receives.

After leaving school in June 1953 he gets a factory job, then goes to Crown Electricity Company, where he finally gets to be a truck driver and loves it.

It was noticed by many he liked to comb his hair and that it wasn’t a concern how seen him do it, in all reality he thought little of others opinions as he would rather use a beauticians pallor than that of a barbershop.
